Donna McGinnis’s work is contemporary and modern yet follows in the romantic tradition of earlier artists such as J..M.W. Turner the 19th Century British painter. Like Turner, McGinnis is inspired by weather’s effect on the landscape’s color and space. Her work captures nature with its jumble of color, light and space then presents it in her signature soft and glowing style.

In recent abstract work, rather than ‘walk-in’ to the canvas as with McGinnis’s representational landscapes, you find yourself ‘backing-out' of the canvas. Your eye first seeks her play of space in a swirl of glazed color then is quickly drawn back to focus on the painting’s surface that is mottled and textured like an early expressive action painting - Turner meets Pollack via McGinnis.
